Abstract

1499801 Seaming; laminating EVODE Ltd 1 Nov 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 49590/73 Headings B5K and B5N [Also in Divisions B3 and B2] Two surfaces are adhesively bonded together by positioning between them a tape or sheet of perforated metal foil on one face of which is a continuous or discontinuous layer of a hot-melt adhesive which extends into the perforations, and heating the tape or sheet electrically or by heated platens so that the adhesive flows through the openings and on cooling forms the bond. An aluminium foil may be used which is formed with triangular perforations before application of the adhesive some of which flows through the apertures. Metal displaced by perforating may be left projecting or flattened against the underside of the foil. Examples of the adhesive are those based on rubbers, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetate, natural or synthetic resin, esters, rosins. Natural or synthetic waxes may be included in the adhesive, plasticizers and mineral or synthetic fillers of particulate or fibrous nature. Antioxidants may be included. Two adhesive compositions are included in the Specification. Resistance or inductive heating may be used.
