Abstract

1499660 Pigment compositions CIBA-GEIGY AG 8 Oct 1975 [26 Oct 1974 18 July 1975] 46407/74 and 30160/75 Heading C4A [Also in Division C3] A solid pigment composition comprising pigment and at least 5% by weight with respect to the weight of pigment of a complex formed from one or more predominantly non-ionic polyether surfactants derived from ethylene oxide and a polymeric carboxylic acid having a molecular weight as free acid of at least 1500, may be prepared by treating a dispersion of the pigment either before, during or after its synthesis with at least 5% by weight with respect to the pigment of the surfactant and a solution of the polymeric carboxylic acid and reducing the pH to 4 or below to form a complex between the surfactant and the acid which precipitates and is deposited on the pigment and separating the pigment composition thus obtained. The pigment may be incorporated into emulsion paints and inks. In Example 20 a yellow pigment is added to a solution of waterbased varnish of the shellac type and water.
