Abstract

1497860 Crash barriers CHARCON Ltd 30 Jan 1975 [30 Oct 1973] 50518/73 Heading E1G A solid crash barrier wall, particularly for a central reservation, is formed by casting concrete within tubular permanent shuttering units 5, 6 of wear-resistant material such as plastics or fibre-reinforced cement, each unit having integral base top and side walls of which the base wall is wider than the top wall and the side walls are so shaped that the wheels of a colliding vehicle are engaged, straightened and lifted by the. side wall to decelerate the vehicle without overturning it. The shuttering units are filled with concrete either through the ends or through top openings 7. Successive units 5, 6 are interlocked as by rebated lap joints 8, or by separate sleeves, and may be provided with a conduit 10 for signals 9.
