Abstract

1497121 Stern forms BLOHM & BOSS AG 6 Aug 1975 [30 Aug 1974] 32923/75 Heading B7A The or each propeller shaft 2 of a vessel is surrounded by a bulbous body 5 projecting from the afterbody tapered at each end and having an axially viewed profile lying partially outboard of a frame-line 4 at the forward end of the body, a rearwardly tapering web connecting the bulbous body to the afterbody, leaving a rearward portion of the body unsupported. The body is stated to create a positive pressure zone in the region of the web above a negative pressure zone at the central section of the bulbous body thus countering an upward stern flow of water. The bulbous body may be asymmetric in transverse section.
