Abstract

1495744 Knitting RIDLEY SPRIGGS & JOHNSON Ltd 15 April 1975 [25 April 1974 12 July 1974] 18039/74 and 30976/74 Heading D1K At least one walewise extending edge of a knitted garment is provided with a "turned" welt formed by floating a yarn over several stitches coursewise in spaced courses which pulls the edge stitches in to form a fold. As shown, Fig. 9, a number of floats connect different stitches and Fig. 11 (not shown) two sets of floats may be provided producing two folds. Blanks for two pairs of briefs are produced in one piece by continuous rotary knitting on a circular seamless hose machine two opposite groups of needles muss-knitting to provide clear cutting lines. Each blank comprises turned welts d 1 , d 2 at either end narrower zones a<SP>4</SP>, a<SP>5</SP> waisted zones a<SP>3</SP> formed by a change of stitch type or yarn type or by quality control. The zones a<SP>4</SP>, a<SP>5</SP> may be 1 x 1 knit/float and zone a<SP>3</SP> which may incorporate cotton yarn, may be 6 Î 1 knit/float. Edges e<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>2</SP> of the legs openings are walewise "turned" welts. In a modification, Fig. 4 zones a<SP>6</SP>, a<SP>7</SP> are of 3 Î 1 knit float and zone a<SP>3</SP> may be 7 x 1 knit/float fabric. A narrow garment strap or the like may have a "turned" welt along each edge.
