Abstract

1494470 Retractive switches HONEYWELL GmbH 5 July 1976 [7 July 1975] 27863/76 Heading H1N A safety limit switch assembly comprises a main snap-action switch A, a normally-closed auxiliary switch B and an actuating member 2-3-9 for actuating the switches A and B in sequence, wherein the switch B comprises a lever 11 carrying a contact and biased by a spring 16 to urge said contact towards a fixed contact, said lever 11 having a projection 14 surrounded by a coil spring 13 acting between the lever 11 and the actuator 9, the height of the projection 14 being greater than that of the coil spring 13 when fully compressed, so that movement of the actuator in an operative direction causes, in sequence, the main switch A to snap over, the coil spring 13 to be compressed until the actuator engages said projection 14, and the auxiliary switch B to open under the force exerted by the actuator on said projection. As shown, the rod 3 is connected to actuator 9 via an adjustable screw 10 to enable the effective length of the actuating member to be varied, thereby varying the travel necessary between actuation of switches A and B. The assembly may be used with the normally-bridged terminals 23, 24 in series with switch B so that the circuit is opened even if switch A fails, due to contact welding, for example. A lamp (32, Fig. 2, not shown) may be connected across switch B contacts to indicate when switch B opens with switch A still closed.
