Abstract
1493680 Rinsing washed mats: washing - machines UNIVERSAL TOWEL CO Ltd M C LEMON and J F SPEAR 19 March 1976 [17 April 1975 26 Jan 1976] 15898/75 and 02946/76 Headings D1A and D1L Cotton or nylon mats backed with rubber or latex are rinsed after washing by passing the mats through a series of pressure nips whilst rinsing liq. is conducted in the opposite direction by means of grooves in the upper roll of the intermediate nips. The mats 82 may either be supported on a drum 50 [Fig. 61 or carried on an upwardly inclined belt (12) [Fig. 3 (not shown)]. As shown in Fig. 6 the supporting drum forms with rolls 51-53 a series of nips through which the mat passes in succession. Rinsing water is supplied from a pipe 71 between rolls 52 and 53. Roll 52 has grooves (72) therein so that the rinsing liq. may pass underneath the roll, the rinse water forming pools downstream of rolls 51, 52. Wash liq. is supplied from manifold 65 upstream of roll 51. The mats are held onto the drum 50 by endless belts 58. The nip pressure of the rolls is adjustable by cylinders 67, 68. In the alternative embodiment the pressure nips are a series of pairs of rolls (16)-(18), the upper rolls of the intermediate pairs (18) being grooved.
