Abstract

Apparatus for treating continuous textile material, e.g fabrics, sliver, roving or yarn comprises an enclosure divided into a preliminary chamber in which the material (1) Fig. 1, not shown, is given a wet treatment, e.g. with dye liquor and a treatment chamber (3) which is at the same pressure as the preliminary chamber and in which, e.g. a steam treatment is given. The inlet and outlet of the enclosure are sealed by pairs of rollers (2, 17). In Fig. 1 the division (13) between the chambers is perforated but if different media are used in the chambers the division is unperforated and a pressure equalising device is provided connecting the chambers, Fig. 2, not shown. In Fig. 1 the liquor is applied in the nip of a roller pair. The rollers and liquor may be cooled. In Fig. 4, not shown, the material is passed beneath a perforated suction drum partially submerged in the liquor. In Fig. 3, not shown, one of the entry sealing rollers also forms one of the pair of rollers holding the liquor and in Fig. 4 three rollers are arranged to provide entry and exit sealing nips for the enclosure. The wet treatment may be partially or wholly carried out by spraying. The material may, as shown in Fig. 1, be carried through the treatment chamber on an endless belt or vibrating chutes, drums or rollers may be used.
