Abstract
1490977 Treating exhaust gases UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 27 Nov 1974 [10 Dec 1973 13 May 1974] 57208/73 Heading ClA [Also in Divisions B1-B2] I.C. engine exhaust gases are treated for reduction of nitrogen oxides and oxidation of carbon monoxide using a catalyst comprising one or more platinum group metals, e.g. Pt, sputtered on to a particular carrier material (see Division B1-B2) comprising an aluminium bearing ferritic alloy substrate, which may be surface oxidized, provided with a continuous layer of adherent carrier material by application to the substrate of material at least partially in gel form, followed by firing. The carrier material may be alumina, ceria, yttria, zirconia, titania,or yttria-stabilized alumina. The alloy substrate may be in the form of a rolled, corrugated sheet. The exhaust gas treatment apparatus may comprise a pair of catalyst chambers, each containing the catalyst, connected for serial treatment of the exhaust gases with intermediate oxygen injection.
