Abstract
1488452 Automatic choke for IC engine; regulating IC engines HONDA GIKEN KOGYO K K 3 June 1975 23996/75 Headings F1B and F1H A choke valve (2) is driven by a reversible pulse motor (5) via a linkage which includes a pair of co-operating pawls (8, 9) and a helical spring (7) between the pulse motor output shaft (6) and the choke valve operating shaft (3), such that the pawls (8, 9) ensure positive rotation of the choke valve (2) in one direction of rotation of the pulse motor (5) and a resilient connection via the helical spring (7) in the reverse direction of rotation of the pulse motor (5). The sequence of operation of the choke valve (5) at engine starting is controlled by a control circuit (4) according to Fig. 2 which involves one reverse movement (A to B) of the pulse motor followed by three controlled forward movements (C to D, E to F and F to G). The invention resides in controlling the rate of movement E to F, which results as the engine first fires, in accordance with engine temperature. When the ignition is switched on, the choke valve (2) is moved from an open position A to a closed position B and a signal is sent to terminal 15 of an AND circuit 19. The starter is operated at D and, as the engine fires, a signal at 21 is supplied directly to the AND circuit 19 at terminal 16 and indirectly through a parallel circuit to terminal 17. The parallel circuit includes a differential circuit which forms a pulse upon receiving the signal from 21, which pulse triggers a timer 24, which transmits a further pulse with a length proportional to engine temperature, as sensed by a thermal responsive resistor 23, to terminal 17. The output of AND circuit 19 is a pulse proportional to engine temperature which is applied to a frequency adjuster circuit 25, which adjusts the frequency of pulses sent to the pulse motor (5) by the control circuit (4) thus adjusting the speed of choke valve opening to point F. After regular firing at point F the choke valve opens gradually to a maximum at G.
