Abstract

1488120 Bearings DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 27 Sept 1974 [10 Oct 1973] 47419/73 Heading F2A A hydrostatic journal bearing 10 has four oil supply pockets 12 arranged in a pattern which, if projected, is substantially rectangular. In use the bearing is arranged so that the pockets are disposed symmetrically about the mean load line. The pockets are L-shaped and are supplied with oil at high pressure through restricted orifices 14. The bearing may have a low pressure oil supply 16, 17, which permits hydrodynamic operation of the bearing. Oil collection grooves may be provided at each end of the bearing.
