Abstract
1488002 Making contact lens GLOBAL VISION (UK) Ltd 3 Oct 1974 [6 Oct 1973] 20707/77 Divided out of 1488001 Heading B3T A machine for use in manufacturing a contact lens from a lens blank 10 comprises a rotary chuck 101 mounted on a head stock 102, the chuck holding the blank support 11, a pivotal tool-carrier 103 with a tool 20 for machining a first curved surface 90 and edge cutting tool 30 for successive operation on the lens blank by pivoting the carrier 103, cross slides carrying tools 111 and 40 being provided for initial machining and centering of the blank and for machining a frusto-conical surface 93 on the side opposite the first curved surface 90. A microscope 62 for detecting the crown of the first curved surface and which, by the use of indicating means, the desired location of the second curved surface 91 can be determined. The second curved surface 91 is machined by a third cutting tool 70 after the lens blank has been reversed on the mounting and secured to by adhesive to a second support 61.
