Abstract
1487918 Containers with lids INSULEX Ltd 15 Nov 1974 [4 Dec 1973] 56204/73 Heading A4A A vessel has a portion defining a first aperture 2 for the introduction of liquid into the vessel, a second aperture 7 whereby liquid may be removed from the vessel, and a closure 5 for the first aperture, wherein the portion defining the first aperture is in the form of the major segment of a circle, and the closure has an outer periphery of circular crosssection, such that when the closure is located in the first aperture that part of the first aperture-defining portion which defines the chord of the circle cooperates with a portion of the outer periphery of the closure so as to cause the centre of the closure to be displaced off-centre with respect to the circle whereby a vent 8 is formed between the closure and the first aperture-defining portion to enable air to enter the vessel via the first aperture when liquid is removed from the second aperture. The aperturedefining portion has a frusto-conical surface and a planar surface 4 inclined with respect to the vertical. The closure has an outer periphery constituted by the outer surface of a frusto-conical body, the taper corresponding to that of the frusto-conical component of the aperture-defining portion. The closure may be of a double-walled construction with the walls formed of a plastics material such as polypropylene or a styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer, and the inner space being filled with a heat insulating material e.g. a plastics foam material formed in situ, such as polyurethane. The vessel may have a handle 6 as may the closure 5 (handle 9).
