Abstract

1484745 Metallurgical blowing lance GRSTEIN REFRACTORIES Ltd 11 June 1976 [18 June 1975] 26012/75 Heading F4B [Also in Divisions B5 and F2] A metallurgical lance comprises a metal tube 2 with longitudinal fins 3 and means bridging the outer-edges of the ribs and carrying anchors, the bridging means being spaced longitudinally of the tube and a refractory coating 5 surrounding the tube and the bridging means 4. The bridging -means and anchors are formed of barbed wire wound helically round the finned tube, which may be formed by extrusion, or by welding fins to a tube. The refractory coating is formed by placing the tube with its anchors in an open topped mould which is filled with refractory material and vibrated, pressing, and drying the refractory. The refractory may be dried by passing an insulated electric heating element through the tube.
