Abstract

1484074 Liquid sampling apparatus BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 1 July 1975 [5 Aug 1974] 34391/74 Heading B8N A liquid sampling apparatus comprises an external liquid-tight container 1 having a gas valve 5, a liquid inlet 3 and a trigger mechanism to support a sample bottle 4 and automatically close the valve when the weight of liquid in the bottle releases the trigger mechanism. The inlet is sealed by a sleeve (18), Fig. 4 (not shown), which is blown off the inlet pipe 3 at the required depth in the liquid by compressed gas introduced into the container 1 through the valve. The sleeve has a cork washer (19) to move it clear of the inlet tube. The trigger mechanism comprises a horse-shoe shaped strip 14 with knife edges 12 to support the bottle lip. The strip is supported by spring- loaded balls 11 and engages a valve actuating rod 24.
