Abstract
1480349 Liquid detection probe A P V CO Ltd 19 Dec 1974 [28 Dec 1973] 59934/73 Heading G1N A probe for detecting whether liquid is present e.g. for use as a liquid level detector comprises a heater R16, R17 and two thermally responsive elements TH2, TH1 mounted in a sleeve 1, one element TH2 being adjacent the heater and the other TH1 remote therefrom. Sleeve 1 may be of stainless steel, the heater may be a pair of resistors R16, R17 in parallel, and the thermally responsive elements may be a pair of thermistors, the resistors and thermistors being encapsulated within the sleeve. As shown in Fig. 2, the thermistors and resistors R12, VR2, R11 form a bridge circuit which is connected between the heater power line 23 and line 21. The bridge unbalance is detected by amplifier Al, the output of which controls transistors T 2 , T 1 which control the potential of line 23 to maintain a constant temperature difference between the thermistors TH1, TH2. The current supplied to the heater to maintain the constant temperature difference is sensed by differential amplifier A2 connected across resistor R7 in the line 23 and the output of A2 operates a relay RL1 via transistor T 4 according to whether the heater current is above or below a predetermined value. Transistor T3 may be mounted on the probe and may be replaced by two transistors in cascade.
