Abstract

1479438 Elevated railways DEMAG AG 29 Aug 1974 [29 Aug 1973] 37775/74 Heading B7L In an elevated railway system comprising a trolley 2 having first and second wheels 6, 8 for engagement respectively with upwardly and downwardly facing surfaces of a rail 1, the spacing of the wheels is greater than that of the rail surfaces and the trolley has, or is adapted to have when loaded, its centre of gravity spaced longitudinally of the rail from the first wheel 6 such that the trolley tends to tilt about the axis of the wheel 6 to bring the second wheel 8 into engagement with the rail, the trolley being tiltable in the opposite direction to disengage the wheel 8 from the rail whereby the trolley may be displaced laterally of the rail to remove the trolley from the rail. When the trolley is on a section of rail inclined as shown in Fig. 2 a line 20 through its centre of gravity is displaced towards a line 19 passing through the first wheel 6 as compared to the position of line 20 when the trolley is on a horizontal section of rail as in Fig. 1. If the rail inclination increases above that shown in Fig. 2 the line 20 may pass to the same side of line 19 as the wheel 8 so that the latter is caused to tilt out of engagement with the rail and for this reason a further wheel 8a may be provided to contact the rail when such tilting occurs. The wheel 8a is readily removable so as not to prevent the tilting process necessary to remove the trolley from the rail. When the trolley is on a section of rail inclined oppositely to that in Fig. 2 the spacing between lines 19 and 20 always increases above that in Fig. 1 whatever the rail inclination and thus the wheel 8 will always engage the rail. The trolley may have a frame 3 formed with a yoke 3b carrying the wheels 6 and a yoke 3c carrying the wheel 8 and guide wheels 9. The frame may carry a plate 3e on which electrical collector contacts are mounted for engaging conductors 18 on the rail. A motor 16 drives the wheel 6 and is located on the frame such as to displace the centre of gravity of the trolley to one side of the line 19. A bracket 14, 15 suspended from the yoke 3c is provided with bores 15a for suspending loads from the trolley.
