Abstract
1478360 Tent framing members PETRIE PATENTS LTD 23 Sept 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 41246/74 Heading E1A [Also in Division F2] A framing member for a tent is constructed from an elongate extrusion 22 of, e.g. polypropylene which has a number of transverse slits or notches extending from one edge thereof nearly to the opposite edge whereby it can be coiled up when not in use, the member being stiffened for use by the insertion of a number of core members 40 shaped to form spigot and socket joints at each slit or notch. The extrusion is preferably reinforced by glass fibres or nylon threads 32, and the core members, which may be of polypropylene or aluminium or other plastics, are inserted in an inner duct 27, preferably tapered from top to bottom to allow easy engagement of a spigot 40 in a socket formed by the duct 27 and the shaped other end 52 of the core member. The core member may be welded in position after insertion. The framing members are inserted through sleeves 56 formed on the outside of the tent, and sit at one end in sockets formed in pads fixed to tabs 66 sticking out from the ground sheet 55, and at the other end in cups 67 fixed on, or integral with, stakes fixed in the ground. The extrusion may be shaped in crosssection so as to stack when coiled (Fig. 8, not shown).
