Abstract
1475178 Feeding sheets INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 10 Oct 1974 43849/74 Heading B8R Banknotes in a pile 3 are urged towards a stop member 14, Fig. 1, in response to the degree of pressure exerted on a microswitch 20 by a weight 12, 13 supported on a belt 10 which is moved when the switch is released, and the end banknote is fed out downwardly by a friction belt separator 23 through a throat 16 to forwarding belts 27, 29, double feed being prevented by a roller 26 rotated so as to return any second banknote to the pile, while skewing of the separated banknote as a result of a thicker portion thereof exerting greater pressure on the member 14 is prevented by so constricting the member 14 as to contact only areas of the banknote of uniform thickness. In one form, Fig. 5, the member 14 comprises two pairs of wire guides 40, 41 and 43, 44, the pair 40, 41 being bent so as to be nearer the pile than the pair 43, 44. Cross-wires 45-48 are secured to the wires 40, 43 and 41, 44 and may have bent ends to act as side guides for the banknotes. In another form, Fig. 9, the member comprises a metal plate 50 in which two guide rails 51, 52 have been coined, and apertures 55, 56. In both forms, apertures are provided for the switch 20 and the belt 23. The stop means could alternatively comprise moving belts, rollers or wheels.
