Abstract

1474671 2-Aminoimidazole derivatives and α-aminoaldehydes GRUPPO LEPETIT SpA 5 Jan 1976 [15 Jan 1975] 1683/75 Heading C2C 2-Aminoimidazole derivatives of Formula I and acid addition salts thereof wherein R is H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, (C 1 -C 2 )-alkoxy-(C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, biphenylyl or phenyl-(C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl; and R 1 is H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or (C 1 -C 2 )-alkoxy-(C 1 -C 4 )-alkyl are prepared by catalytically hydrogenating an α- aminonitrile of Formula IV or an acid salt thereof, in the presence of a group 8 metal as the hydrogenation catalyst, in an aqueous solution of a mineral acid, optionally isolating the resulting α-aminoaldehyde of Formula V adding cyanamide, and heating the resulting mixture.
