Abstract
1474565 Reciprocating pumps GENERAL MOTORS FRANCE 30 Oct 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 47744/74 Heading F1A In a fuel pump for an I.C. engine, throughflow of fuel when the pump is inoperative is prevented by a stop valve comprising a diaphragm 40 co-operating with a valve seat on a neck 42 to control communication between an outlet chamber 20 and a delivery chamber 48 in a valve and seat assembly member 12 cast or moulded in metal or plastics, the diaphragm being biased closed by a spring 43 and being subjected on its upper surface to the outlet chamber pressure and on its larger area lower surface to the inlet chamber pressure. A calibrated orifice 51 connects the outlet chamber either to the inlet chamber 19, as shown, or to the vehicle fuel tank, Fig. 2 (not shown), to prevent successive outlet chamber pressure when the pump is inoperative. The valve and seat assembly 12 supports diaphragm 40, inlet and outlet values 23, 33 and a filter 52, and is secured to pump body 1, with pumping diaphragm 10, by a crimped-on cover 15. Diaphragm 10 is driven by an eccentric 3.
