Abstract

1474078 Electrical load cell GES ZUR FORDERUNG DER EISENHUTTENTECHNIK mbH 2 July 1974 [2 July 1973] 29395/74 Heading G1N A load cell has a cylindrical body 1 having a layer of vulcanized silicone-caoutchonc disposed in it which layer is pressurized by a piston 3 to which a force or pressure to be measured is applied, a resistance wire 5 being embedded in the rubber layer. The body 1 and piston 3 together constitute a vessel which encloses the layer 2. The wire may be manganin or a silver-manganese alloy. It is stated that the specific resistance of the wire changes because of the pressure increase in the rubber layer, so that a resistance measurement may be made by a suitable device connected across the wire to yield information about the pressure in the body and hence about the force applied to the piston. A bridge is particularly suitable for the measurement.
