Abstract

1473492 Heat exchangers SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 May 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 9694/73 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a plurality of fins 10 in thermal contact with a tube (not shown but tube apertures 11 indicated), each fin is formed on at least one side thereof with continuous, regularly spaced, turbulence promoting ribs 12 of height h in the range 0À005 to 0À020 inch. The ribs shown are rectangular, the rib width W being in the range 0À005 to 0À020 inch. The pitch P of the ribs is in the range 0À010 to 0À200 inch. The ratio h : W is in the range ¥ to 2 and the ratio P : h is in the range 2 to 15. The ribs shown may be formed by rolling to raise the ribs from a flat strip. In other forms described the fin plate 10 may be corrugated to provide contiguous ribs of sawtooth form (Fig. 4), or spaced ribs of triangular configuration (Fig: 5) extending alternately from opposite sides of the fin plate.
