Abstract
1472573 Decorticating barley RICHARD SIZER Ltd 30 July 1975 [1 June 1974] 24390/74 Heading A2Q In a method of decorticating grain, e.g. barley, the grain is (a) fed into a drum 14 having a perforated wall, (b) agitated against the inner surface of the wall which is at least partly lined with abrasive thereby removing the husk and pericarp from the distal ends of the grain and (c) ejected through outlet 18. In the embodiment shown the grain is agitated by rotating vanes 30, the speed of rotation and the separation between the vanes and the drum being adjustable. Some of the abraded husk and pericarp falls through the perforations into hopper 32. The remainder is removed from the ejected grain by an upward air current in aspirator 34. A second drum arrangement contained in housing 36 also feeds grain to aspirator 34.
