Abstract
1392777 Cotton seed delinting apparatus ANDERSON CLAYTON & CO 17 July 1973 34045/73 Heading DIN An apparatus for delinting cottonseed comprises a generally cylindrical casing 12 partially lined with abrasive material 20, a rotor 24 disposed within the casing and journalled to rotate therein leaving an annular space 42 between itself and the casing, a seed inlet 44 to the annular space, a lint outlet 58 in the unlined portion of the casing wall, a finger plate 62 between the rotor and the lint outlet and means to cause a stream of air to flow into the casing and out through the lint outlet. An adjustable seed outlet 52 is disposed at each end of the machine and air is admitted through apertures 68 in each end plate to entrain lint through the outlet 58. A suitable suction pump may be provided in the outlet conduit. A trash separation grill 70 is provided at the bottom and means such as a conveyor may remove trash from the hopper 72 beneath it. The casing geometry may be adjusted by means of the turnbuckles 76, 78. The rotor peripheral speed is preferably between 1800 and 3800 ft/min, the clearance between rotor and casing 5/16 to 3/4 inch, and the abrasive is e.g. silicon carbide in the range 16 to 100 grit coarsness, or preferably 54 to 60. Vanes 32 on the rotor are e.g. steel, wood or aluminium. The abrasive may be in discrete bricks, as shown, or in a single unitary structure.
