Abstract

1470380 Cylinder type mower with cutter wires BRITISH SUGAR CORP Ltd 22 Oct 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 51784/73 Heading A1F Apparatus for topping tall weeds growing with sugar beet or destroying potato hulms comprises at least one cutting wire 11 held taut between adjacent vertical and coaxial discs 4 which are fixed upon a common horizontal, rotatable shaft. The wires are spaced around the periphery of the discs and have coiled ends which are releasably held within the end slots 14 of bolts 12 by pins located in apertures 15. The wires are tightened by adjusting nuts 13 and may be parallel or inclined to the rotational axis so as to accommodate potato ridges. They may, if desired be protected from centrifugal deformation by auxiliary discs, bands or helical wires. The drive is taken from a tractor or a separate motor and the cutters may be protected by an overhead guard.
