A rotary scythe mower comprising motor driven cutters mounted in a casing 1 having height-adjustable wheels is characterized by a discharge opening 7 for cut grass which is divided into sections by one or more plates 10 arranged to decrease in width in a direction inwardly. towards the cutters from an apex 14 to the end 15. The plate is fixed to the casing by means of an integral flange 11 and acts as a safety guard for the opening.
