Abstract

1468354 Structural joints METAL SECTIONS Ltd 10 Sept 1974 [6 July 1973] 32428/73 Heading F2M A sheet metal beam 10 of a ceiling structure is connected to a similar beam 11 lying at right angles to it by forming an aperture 25 in the latter which presents one or more straight lateral edges 22 and one or more inclined opposed edges 23, the or each of the latter being adapted to engage a rounded or tapered portion 15 of a tongue 13 on the beam 10 as the latter is inserted into the aperture so that as a resilient integral catch portion 18 of the tongue passes through the aperture the tongue is gradually forced against the edge 22 so that the catch portion snaps behind the aperture in the beam 11 and retains the tongue in a position in which it is prevented from withdrawal by the catch portion and further insertion is prevented by abutments 16, 17 on the tongue. The tongue is preferably strengthened by a raised portion 14.
