Abstract
1468120 Plastics-cased cell TIMEX CORP 7 Oct 1975 [27 Jan 1975] 41126/75 Heading H1B A cell comprises anode 5 and depolarizing cathode material 6 disposed respectively in opposed plastics casing members 1 and 2, means 7, 8, 9, separating the anode and cathode materials, and an electrolyte, each said plastics casing member including at least a portion 10, 13, consisting of an electrically conductive plastics material and a peripheral flange 3, 4, a metallic spacer 16, 17, disposed in each of said casing members and electrically connecting the conductive portion thereof with the respective anode or cathode material, said peripheral flanges being juxtaposed and an electrically non- conducting fused connection being formed between them so as to seal together parts 1 and 2 and to mutually insulate conductive regions 10 and 13. The anode 5 may be granulated Zn, Cd or In, and cathode 6 may be HgO or Ag 2 O mixed with graphite or AgO/Ag 2 O mixed with Ag powder; spacer sheets 16 and 17 may be Cu and Ni respectively, the electrolyte NaOH or KOH, and the separator may have 3 sheets; 7 is cellulosic material, 8 is a polyethylene methacrylic polymer membrane and 9 is a modified polyvinyl alcohol membrane. The conductive plastics region may be made by impregnating the non- conductive plastics with C. black; the conductive region may extend over the whole of shells 1, 2, in which case a non-conductive ring is interposed therebetween at the join, (Fig. 3, not shown). The cells may be used in a watch or hearing-aid.
