Abstract
1338780 Primary cells P R MALLORY & CO Inc 19 April 1971 [9 April 1970] 26785/71 Heading H1B In a primary cell 10 comprising a cylindrical metal can 12 containing cathodic depolarizer material 14, an ionic exchange membrane separator 16 and anode electrolyte 20, the anode assembly consists of a nail-shaped anode 22 fitted in a plastics cap 46 which hermetically seals the can. The anode has a plate 30 spotwelded thereto serving as a terminal for the cell. The can is encased in a paper tube 80 and steel jacket 82 which is crimped over the terminal 30 of the anode and the terminal 90 which contacts the can. The can, which may be made of steel, is crimped around the cap 46 and insulated from the terminal 30 by a paper ring 40. The cap, which may beÀof nylon, has a circular apron 64 which shapes the separator on assembly. The anode is made of an alloy of copper, zinc and nickel. The anode electrolyte comprises Zn pellets, KOH and ZnO, and the depolarizer comprises MnO 2 mixed with graphite or carbon particles.
