Abstract

1467690 Storage tank for inflammable liquid CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 23 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 55609/74 Heading A5A A storage tank for inflammable liquid comprises a substantially vertical wall 1 having at the top end thereof a substantially continuous and horizontal (defined) slot 8 through which foam can be introduced from continuous distribution conduit 9 so that it flows down wall 1 in a substantially continuous curtain, foam generators 14 and 15 and nozzles 18, 19 and 20 for discharging foam into the conduit 9. Foam solution is fed from line 10 via manifold 11 and pipes 12 and 13 to the foam generators 14 and 15. The tank has a floating roof 3, seal 4 and weather shield 5. A foam dam 6 on the roof 3 confines foam in the seal area. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the foam distribution conduit is circular in cross section, is apertured and provided with a foam deflector which defines the foam inlet slot between its lower edge and the top of the tank wall.
