Abstract
1467066 Hose couplings PNEUMATIQUES CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER-COLOMBES 14 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 21360/74 Heading F2G In a crimped pipe connector of the kind which comprises a stem and a sleeve an internally reinforced high pressure pipe 10, e.g. apipe which will stand pressures up to 350 bars is compressed between stem 14 having external circumferential depressions 21 and shallow ribs 20 and sleeve 15 having internal circumferential ribs 22 corresponding to depressions 21 in stem 14, the axial spacing between successive depressions 21 and between corresponding ribs 22 in the crimped sleeve being 1À5 to 5 times the thickness e of the pipe wall. The connector is fastened axially and sealed to pipe 10 by crimping sleeve 14 by radially inward compression applied around the outer circumference of ribs 22 so that the pipe wall which has reinforcement 12, e.g. braided metal between an inner tube 11 and external rubber covering 13 is pressed alternately into depressions 21 on stem 14 and into the depressions between ribs 22 on sleeve 15 and ribs 22 penetrate cover 13 as far as reinforcement 12, the pipe wall thus assuming a longitudinally undulating shape. The depth of depressions 21 may be between 0À1 and 0À5 times the thickness e of the pipe wall and ribs 22 may be of rectangular cross-section and their widths 0À4 to 1À0 times the thickness e. In a modification the troughs of the depressions in sleeve 15 may be reinforced with ribs (26), Fig. 6 (not shown), and the numbers of ribs 22 and depressions 21 may be increased. In a second embodiment Fig. 7 (not shown), stem 14 has a connection 27, 28 between its internal bore and the outer face of one of its ribs 20 situated between two adjacent sleeve ribs 22 so that pressure of the fluid in the pipe will press the pipe wall against ribs 22. In a third embodiment the connection to the interior of the pipe is provided by a gap separating an end portion 14 2 from the body 14 1 of the stem Fig. 8 (not shown).
