1467052 Accelerating epoxide reactions VEBA CHEMIE AG 23 Jan 1974 03175/74 Heading C3B The reaction between epoxy resins and carboxyl or carboxylic anhydride compounds, in the non-aqueous phase, is accelerated by imidazolines of formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP> may be identical or different and are chosen from H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkaryl, cycloalkyl and heterocyclic radicals, halogen, keto, amine or nitro groups and also radicals containing ether, thioether, ester and carbonamide groups or two R's together may represent an O or S atom; R<SP>11</SP> is chosen from alkinyl, alkylene, arylene, aralkylene, cycloalkylene or heterocyclic radicals optionally substituted by halogen, nitro or amino groups or two such radicals linked by O, N or S atoms; X is H or a radical The catalyst may be used at 0À05-10% by wt. of reactants. Examples relate to the curing of a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A with (methyl)hexahydrophthalic anhydride and methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride accelerated by 2 - methyl - 4(n - butyl) - imidazoline, 2 - phenyl - 4(N - morpholinylmethyl) - imidazoline and 2-ethyl-4-methylimidazoline.
