Abstract

1466266 Shoe upper conforming machine BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 11 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 17810/73 Heading A3B The overall construction and operation of the shoe upper conforming machine is as described in Specification 1466268. The invention of this specification is directed to means whch are provided for engaging a toe end portion of a shoe assembly supported upon a shoe supporting means and thereby determining the length of the shoe assembly to be operated upon and automatic setting means which serves to determine the relative position occupied by the shoe supporting means and lasting rolls prior to engagement of the lasting rolls with the shoe assembly. In operation the jack post 12 is moved from a loading position to a vertical position wherein the shoe assembly is positioned against heel band assembly 30. Two armed lever 52, 54 is moved so that lever 52 abuts the toe of the shoe assembly. The lever 52 has an abutment 117 attached thereto which also moves stop rod 112 against spring action. The rod slides in bearing member 18 which is attached to carriage 20. The carriage is then moved rearward until rod 112 abuts stop 114. In this position the shoe assembly is correctly positioned. Fig. 3 shows heel band assembly 30. Heel band 110 is detachably supported upon forwardly extending arms 120 of two armed levers having rearwardly extending arms 122. Clyinder 135 imparts closing movements to band 110 via the levers. Equalisation of pressure is achieved by the link 138. Side clamping pads 150 are operated by cylinders 174 and the pads do not extend above the featherline. Operation of the heel band and the pads will centralise the shoe assembly depending on whether it is a right or left shoe. Consequential movement at the toe can be used to trigger for example a micro switch to cause a control circuit of the machine to bring about an appropriate change in a template system associated with adhesive applying means.
