1466015 Welding by pressure Y AOYAMA 18 April 1975 [22 April 1974 24 April 1974] 16089/75 Heading B3R Resistance welding apparatus for welding small parts such as nuts and bolts to largersize components, e.g. steel sheets, comprises an upper movable electrode 1, a lower fixed electrode 2, means for releasably holding at a position spaced from and above the welding position a part fed between the electrodes, the movable electrode being arranged in its advance to release the part from the holding means and advance it to the welding position at a rate such that it is held in contact with the end face of the electrode. The parts to be welded may be fed along an elongate feed strip or channel by their own weight or by an air blast and are held in the clamping head by, e.g. (Fig. 6) resiliently loaded pressure bars 18. The clamping head may provide a guide sleeve 15, Fig. 6, for the upper electrode and the latter preferably has a central locating pin 1a on its lower face for location in a central aperture or dimple (Fig. 11) in the part to be welded. The lower electrode may have a fixed or, as shown in Figs. 8, 11, resiliently retractable locating pin for locating the lower workpiece and possibly for co-operation with the locating pin of the upper electrode. As shown the parts to be welded are provided with projections 3, Fig. 8, for projection welding.
