Abstract

1466080 Furniture joints SIDDALL & HILTON Ltd 30 Oct 1974 [1 Nov 1973] 50785/73 Heading F2M [Also in Division A4] An attachment for a hospital bed (e.g. a headboard, footboard, side frame, gantry or the like) is secured to the bed by engagement of a wedge shaped spigot on one part engaging between a pair of abutments on the other part, the taper angle of the wedge being between 12 and 20 degrees, and preferably being 16 degrees. As shown (Fig. 2) the spigot 16 includes a flat face and an opposed tapering face, the tip being a narrow parallel faced portion. The pair of abutments comprises a parallel sided rectangular section socket traversed by a pin parallel with two opposed sides. In use the flat face of the spigot engages one of the walls of the socket while the pin bears against the tapering face of the wedge. It is stated that if the wedge angle is too small the joint may jam up, while if it is too large a sloppy fit will result.
