Abstract
1465335 Measuring displacement electrically W BRADLEY 22 Aug 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 36844/74 Heading G1N A transducer providing an electrical signal varying with displacement of shaft 27 along its longitudinal axis includes magnets 14, 15 bearing respective poles 11, 12 of opposite polarity; a magnetic flux transmitting armature 26 mounted for displacement along the longitudinal axis of the shaft towards or away from the poles to increase or decrease the flux transmitted by the armature; a magnetoresistor 55 carried by the armature which latter has a range of movement s between limits, at one of which the flux transmitted through the element is a maximum and at the other of which the flux transmitted through the element falls to zero due to the flux being shunted through a shorting bar or bulkhead 38. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 7 (not shown) the armature (80) is formed by an elongate stem (81) with heads (82a, b) at opposite ends thereof, which co-operate with poles (83a, b) of a tubular magnetic member (83) arranged co-axially with the armature and with a tubular flux shorting bar (86) to cause the flux through magnetoresistor (85) to drop to zero when the head (82b) is adjacent end (86b) of the bar. Temperature compensation is provided.
