Abstract

1461384 Battery cages SALOPIAN INDUSTRIES (METALS) Ltd 30 May 1974 [2 June 1973] 26412/73 Heading AIM A battery cage system incorporates floors which reduce the tendency of eggs to crack when being laid and facilitate the delivery of eggs from the cages. The floor of each cage consists of a mesh 10 of wires 11, 12 of lighter gauge than the cage wires 3, supported on taut wires 15 and inclined to the horizontal plane to permit eggs to roll therefrom. Movement of poultry in the cages causes the floors to vibrate, urging the eggs to roll down the inclined floor, onto a delivery conveyor 19. The cages are arranged in horizontal rows, the strain wires extending beneath the rows so that vibrations may also be transmitted to any particular floor by the movement of poultry in any of the cages in the respective row. The tension in the taut wires may be varied by means of bolts 16 connecting them to rigid frame members 17 at the ends of each row.
