Abstract

1461180 Ratchet clutches G MARCHIONE 26 April 1974 [7 May 1973] 18362/74 Heading F2C A wheel 10 with internal ratchet teeth 12 is mounted on a shaft so that the teeth coact with a pawl 18 projecting from a spindle 17 mounted eccentrically in the shaft, and a similar wheel (not shown) with oppositely directed ratchet teeth is mounted on the shaft so that its teeth coact with a pawl 18<SP>1</SP> also projecting from the spindle. A spring 20 positions the spindle so that both pawls project somewhat from the shaft when the apparatus is at rest. When the shaft is rotated in either direction engagement of one of the pawls with a ratchet tooth causes the spindle 17 to be turned whereby that pawl is retracted into a recess 19 and the other pawl is caused to project further for driving engagement with its co-operating ratchet teeth.
