Abstract
1460045 2 - Nitromethylene - phthalides BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 14 April 1975 [3 May 1974] 19477/74 Heading C2C Novel compounds II in which R 5 and R 6 are hydrogen, C 1-3 alkyl or C 1-3 alkoxy or together represent trimethylene or tetramethylene are used to prepare compounds I and salts thereof by reaction with a tertiary amine base in an aprotic solvent and if desired converting the product into a salt. Compounds II are prepared from Compounds IV (which may be prepared by reacting an R 5 ,R 6 - phthalic anhydride with nitromethane in the presence of a base) by dehydration or by chlorinating the cyclic enol-tautomer of compound IV, followed by dehydrochlorination.
