Abstract

1459779 Reforming naphtha EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 31 Dec 1973 60281/73 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] Naphtha feedstocks are reformed using a catalyst composition comprising a physical mixture of a supported metals component and refractory material, the supported metals component comprising a mixture of Group VIII metals or of at least one Group VIII metal with at least one metal of Groups Ib (i.e. Cu, Ag and Au) or VIIb (i.e. Mn, Tc, Re) contained on a refractory carrier selected from alumina, silica, silica-alumina, crystalline aluminosilicates, silica-magnesia or mixtures thereof, the refractory material of the supported metals component comprising less than “ of the total weight of refractory material of the composition and the remaining refractory material being selected from alumina, silica (but not quartz), crystalline aluminosilicates, silica-alumina, silica-magnesia or mixtures thereof. In the examples, (i) a naphtha feed comprising 15-75% wt. paraffins, 15-75% wt. naphthenes and the remainder aromatics and boiling at 120-400‹ F. is reformed at 150-450 p.s.i.g., 750-975‹ F. with 2000-6000 s.c.f./barrel of recycled hydrogen and a space velocity of 1-5 hr.<SP>-1</SP> to give a C 5 + reformate of research octane number of 80-100; (ii) methylcyclopentane is converted at 850‹ F., 200 p.s.i.g., a hydrogen/hydrocarbon mole ratio of 5 : 1 and a space velocity of 30 hr.<SP>-1</SP>; (iii) a naphtha of boiling range 200-325‹ F. and containing 40-45% naphthenes, 40- 45% paraffins and the remainder aromatics is reformed at 940‹ F., 200 p.s.i.g., a hydrogen/ hydrocarbon mole ratio of 5 : 1 and a space velocity of 1À5 hr.<SP>-1</SP> to give a product of research octane number 99; and (iv) n-heptane is reformed at 925‹ F., 200 p.s.i.g., a hydrogen heptane mole ratio of 5 : 1 and a space velocity of 20 hr.<SP>-1</SP> to give a specified range of products.
