Abstract
1457618 Electric arc electrodes C CONRADTY 7 June 1974 [16 June 1973] 25338/74 Heading H5H A section of an arc furnace graphite electrode provided with a screw-threaded socket to make a nipple connection to an adjacent section has an oxidation resistant protective coating with a higher specific conductance than carbon that covers the whole surface of the section apart from the screw threaded socket. It is stated that the current flowing through the nipple interconnection is thereby reduced and does not damage the nipple and socket. The coating, which has a specific resistance between 0À07 and 0À10 #/mm.<SP>2</SP>/m., is made of aluminium with minor amounts of oxides and carbides. It becomes plastic under operating conditions improving electrical contact at the joints.
