Abstract
1455702 Adjustably mounting vibrators W C BURGESS Jnr 29 Nov 1973 [6 Dec 1972] 55511/73 Heading F2X A vibratory bowl 10 has a trackway 16 extending from its bottom 14 to a discharge point 18 thereof along which ports are fed under the action of vibrations applied to a drive plate 22 on which the bowl 10 is mounted, the latter being connected by means of springs 26 to a base 24, the vibrations being generated by a free-piston vibration inducing device 30 which is connected to a mounting block 34 attached to the plate 22, the device 30 being rotatable about the axis of a bolt 46 in a vertical plane, which is spaced from the central axis (32) of the apparatus, Fig. 2 (not shown). As the bowl 10 may include counterbalancing weights to avoid " dead spots " along the trackway 16 the bowl 10 has an asymmetric weight distribution and the purpose of the device 30 is to produce an asymmetric force vector which is directed to the bowl 10 in such an attitude as to closely approach balance of the asymmetric vector caused by the asymmetric weight distribution of the bowl 10. The fact that the device 30 is rotatable about the axis of the bolt 46 provides for the determination of the optimum angle for a given bowl 10, as any one of several different bowls, each having its own particular asymmetric weight distribution, can be mounted on the plate 22, the device 30 being fixed in its optimum position by means of a lock washer (48), Fig. 2 (not shown). The device 30 comprises a free piston enclosed in a casing, the piston being movable under gas pressure supplied to and exhausted from the casing at points 38 and 42 respectively.
