Abstract

1452599 Casting processes RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 7 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 58175/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division E2] In a method of casting, an item such as an insulating slab 25 or an exothermic or additive material, e.g. ferromanganese, is supported at the top of a mould by a clip 10 and molten metal poured into the mould until the surface of the melt is close to or encompasses a portion 14 of the clip thereby softening or melting the portion 14 and causing the slab 25 to be lowered to the surface of the melt. The clip may be made of mild steel wire and has a portion 12 which engages under the lip of a hot top tile 21 or the mould. The slab 25 and the tile 21 may be made using the composition disclosed in Specification 1,300,954.
