Abstract

1451316 Ink ribbon mechanisms F J AINSCOUGH and A J AINSCOUGH 17 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972 31 Aug 1973] 41103/73 and 57897/72 Heading B6F An erase ribbon holder comprises a pivotally mounted bracket 10 carrying a supply drum 13 holding an erase ribbon 14 and means for guiding the ribbon 14. The bracket is movable between the inoperative position (as shown) to position in which the ribbon is located between the printing mechanism and recording medium of a typewriter. As shown the bracket pivots about screw 11 attaching the holder to conventional typewriter X. Ribbon feed in this embodiment is provided by frictional contact of a ribbon take-up reel 12 with the platen 15. Spring 19 engages notches on the bracket 10 to hold it in either of its positions and a second spring (17), Fig. 3 (not shown), urges the reel 12 and platen 15 into frictional engagement. In other embodiments no take-up reel is provided, the ribbon being discarded after use and the ribbon is fed by frictional engagement of the ribbon and recording medium, the coefficient of friction between them being greater than between the ribbon and a very smooth ribbon guiding surface on the bracket.
