Abstract

1451201 Treating wool scour waste NEW ZEALAND INVENTIONS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY 7 Dec 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 56898/73 Heading C1C A method of treating spent or partially spent liquor effluent from the scouring of raw or slipe wool in an aqueous soap or synthetic detergent solution comprises removing the liquor from the scour bowl, introducing sufficient dilute aqueous solution of an effective non-ionic or cationic polyacrylamide flocculant to give a flocculant concentration of 1-20 p.p.m. by weight in the said liquor, holding the treated liquor in a separation stage at up to 85‹ C. and at pH 7-10 to allow flocculation and subsequent solid separation to take place, removing the separated solids and recycling or discharging the clarified liquor. The separation stage may contain a dissolved air flotation system. An apparatus suitable for the method is also claimed.
