Abstract
1450972 Percussive tool G KLEMM [trading as INGENIEUR GUNTER KLEMM SPEZIALUNTERNEHMEN FUR BOHRTECHNIK] 11 July 1974 [11 June 1974] 30824/74 Heading B4C An hydraulic percussive tool comprises a driving piston 11 and a control piston 23 the working piston 11 during its movement on the return stroke uncovering a series of throttled ducts 25, 26, 27, 28 which control the movement of control piston 23 which in turn gradually decelerates piston 11 thus preventing severe shocks. The piston 23 comprises a liollow sleeve acted on by springs 31, 34. In operation pressure medium enters by a duct 13 and passes by ducts 19, 15 to both sides of piston 11 but causes the piston to move downwardly due to the larger area at the upper side of piston 11. Control valve 23 is held down by pressure on its surface 56. When the ducts 25-28 are cut off by the piston 11 the pressure therein falls and the pressure on surface 56 falls allowing the valve 23 to rise and connect the upper area of piston 11 to exhaust duct 21 by an annular ring 29 in piston 23. As the piston 11 rides control duets 25-28 are gradually uncovered which allows valve 23 to move slowly downwardly due to build up in pressure on surface 56 and hence the pressure builds up slowly above piston 11 to produce gradual cushioning. A spring loaded valve 14 is provided to pass incoming air to an accumulator 43 to cause gradual movements therein and prevent rupture of the membrane 44 therein.
