Abstract

1,161,905. Power hammers. J. B. OTTESTAD. 1 Aug., 1966 [2 Aug., 1965; 11 July, 1966, No. 17173/69. Divided out of 1,161,904. Heading B3H. An impact ram 10 has a working plunger 20 actuated on its impact stroke by pressure fluid admitted to its rear surface 29 from a charging chamber 38 through a valve 130 operating in response to a predetermined pressure in the charging chamber so as to produce repeated strokes of the plunger. The ram is identical to those described in Specification 1,161,904 wherein an accumulator piston 31 biased on its left by pressure gas is movable within the plunger 20. During charging hydraulic fluid is admitted from annular chamber 23 and ports 51 into the charging chamber 38. This moves the piston 31 to the left and simultaneously seals annular surfaces 27, 28 on the plunger and a fixed end cap 125. Secured to piston 31 is a poppet valve 130 and when a land 131 thereof clears land 132 and land 133 closes land 28, the fluid in the charging chamber 38 is admitted to a triggering chamber 30 and acts upon plunger surface 29 to effect the working stroke. Subsequently land 133 clears land 128 thus opening the triggering chamber 30 to exhaust vent 126. Land 131 then closes land 132 and charging recommences.
