1449535 Preparation of penicillins and cephalosporins INSTITUTO LUSO-FARMACO SARL 15 March 1974 [16 March 1973] 11714/74 Heading C2C Compounds of Formulµ I-III (in which R 1 is phenyl, 2-chlorophenyl, 2,6- dichlorophenyl, 2-fluorophenyl or 4-hydroxy phenyl and R 2 is -CH 2 -CR 3 R 4 R 5 or -CH 2 OCOR 6 in which R 3 -R 5 are H, CH 3 or C 2 H 5 and R 6 is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , n-C 3 H 7 , iso-C 3 H 7 , n-C 4 H 9 , t-C 4 H 9 , phenyl or CH(C 2 H 5 ) 2 ) are prepared by selective acid hydrolysis of a compound VII, VIII or IX (in which R 7 is methylene) respectively. The compounds VII-IX may be prepared by reaction of a compound IV, V or VI (in which R 8 is an alkali metal or t-ammonium cation) with XCH 2 CR 3 R 4 R 5 or XCH 2 OCOR 6 (X is a leaving group).
