Abstract

1448961 N-(Tertiaryaminoalkyl)acrylamides JEFFERSON CHEMICAL CO Inc 7 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 676/75 Heading C2C A process for the preparation of N-(tertiaryaminoalkyl)acrylamides of the formula wherein R 1 is H or methyl; n is an integer from 2 to 6; and R 2 and R 3 , taken singly are C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups or R 2 and R 3 , taken jointly are combined with the N<SP>1</SP> atom to form a heterocyclic group selected from the group consisting of morphline, pyrrolidine and piperidine ring groups comprises: subjecting a #-aminopropionamide of the formula to a temperature of 180‹ to 300‹ C. in the absence of a catalyst; and separating the resultant product N - (tertiaryaminoalkyl)- acrylamide compound. Heating may be effected in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor. The compounds of Formula II may be made by reacting at least two moles of a tertiary aminoalkyl amine of formula with an acrylic acid or ester of formula where Z is H, methyl or ethyl.
